British Airways Is Offering Elite Flyers “Paternity Leave,” Letting Them Put Status On Hold

I love this. I’m so behind this.

One Mile at a Time reports British Airways has added an additional policy to their frequent flyer program, letting elite flyers put their status on hold for a year once they become new parents. This applies to Executive Club Bronze, Silver or Gold members. So you don’t have to find ways to protect that status while you’re busy nursing the little wee one. And they only grow up once.

Luckily, British Airways had made it quite simple to activate this benefit:

In order to qualify for this, members just need to provide a letter from their doctor, a birth certificate or documentation relating to the adoption or paternity leave and email it, along with their Executive Club membership name and number.

There’s even a little side bonus: British Airways is also offering an additional 1,000 Avios points when the baby signs up for an account (and is enrolled into the household account). Consider it a baby shower gift, from British Airways to you.
